New to Lotus Yoga?
Here’s some things you should know before your first visit :)
What Style of Yoga
Lotus Flow is a trauma informed vinyasa flow yoga style tailored for the modern yogi, that honors yoga’s roots incorporating breath work, groundings, philosophy and intention into each practice. Classes focus on moving with awareness and linking breath to movement in a fluid and dynamic sequence. The emphasis is on creating a safe and supportive environment that honors individual experiences and fosters body awareness, and encourages self-acceptance.
Whether you are new to yoga or have years of experience, Lotus Flow provides a nurturing space for personal growth and transformation. The trauma-informed approach ensures that everyone, regardless of their background, can engage in a practice that meets their needs. You don’t need to be experienced in yoga or even be flexible, just have a desire to move and breath in a safe space with a community of like minded people.
We do not practice hot yoga but the studio is a warm comfortable temperature. You are able to regulate your own body temperature by adjusting your practice as you see fit. We will give you lots of options :)
What to Expect
Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before class begins to check-in and set up. Doors open at least 15 minutes before class starts. Once class begins we lock the door and do not allow late arrivals. This ensures a relaxing experience for all students and is in line with being a trauma informed space.
Expect your teacher to greet you as you enter. Help yourself to water or tea before class. Set up your mat space on the marked spot and match the props the teacher has set up at the front of the studio.
The room will be a warm comfortable temperature and we do not practice hot yoga. If you want to heat up your practice you can notch it up and build more heat, if you need to cool down your practice you can slow your pace or take breaks.
If you have any limitations, are working with any injuries or conditions or are pregnant, let your instructor know ahead of time. Instructors will offer some adjustments to your practice to make it the most enjoyable experience for you that day. We also encourage you to listen to your body and make the practice your own.
What to Bring
Bring a yoga mat and water bottle. We have water fountains to refill your bottle and we offer complimentary tea. If you want to bring your own tea mug we encourage it :)
We have rental mats for $2. All other props are provided (blankets, bolsters, straps, blocks or a chair if you need it).
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and layers so you can regulate your body temperature. The room will be a comfortable warm temperature for practice.
