Lemon Ginger Tea for Uplifting Energy and Gut Health

Ginger and Lemon are a powerful combination to help out gut digest food. Ginger has long been a tummy aid, and the addition of lemon gives it a lively flavor and energy boost.

In Ayurveda, the personal care practices that go along with yoga practice, summer is considered a Pitta or Agni season where the fiery energy can show up in our minds (go go go!), our emotions (intense summer love emotions anyone?) and in our bodies. When it shows up in our bodies it can exacerbate the digestive fire making us feel icky, bloated, gassy, lethargic or generally unwell.

Drinking some ginger lemon tea will get your digestive fire back on track and give you a little energy and flavor boost too!

Drink it hot for the best digestive effects, or drink it cold for the best energy boost. But really, however you drink it, you will love it :)

Here’s my favorite caffeinated blend: (ditch the black tea for a decaf option)

INGREDIENTS

3 Table spoons of loose leaf black tea

1 tablespoon of shaved ginger

1/2 lemon

Boil the ginger in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes, strain out ginger chunks and set aside.

Put black tea leaves in your cup and add boiling water. Steep 2-3 minutes. (I like to use a tea ball, but you can place leaves in the cup and strain after steeping as well).

Once black tea is steeped remove leaves and add in the ginger water (strain out the ginger chunks as you pour). Squeeze lemon in and stir. Add a bit of honey to sweeten.

For iced tea, let this brew cool for 10 minutes and serve over ice.

Enjoy!
