Yummy Warm Golden Milk Drink for Wintery Days
In Ayurveda, the Self-Care practiced that go alongside yoga practice, they advise us to seek out warm, thick and comforting beverages and foods in the cold winter months. In New England, this time of year is called Vata Season, or the season that has cold, sharp and dry qualities.
To balance out those cold, sharp and dry qualities we can use humidifiers in our homes, embrace soft cozy textures (think fuzzy blankets) and we can drink hearty warm drinks that sooth, calm and heal our minds and bodies.
One of my favorites is Golden Milk, or Turmeric Milk, this season. It is thick, yummy and the golden color is so inviting. The ingredients help to boost your immune system and fight inflammation, all in 1 yummy cuppa.
You can make it yourself, or you can buy a mix from Banyan Botanicals.
Here’s my recipe, but feel free to use your favorite milk and adding in extra cinnamon and honey for sweetness, or add in extra spices to your taste preferences:
In a small pot warm 2 cups of almond milk and whisk so it thickens
Stir in 1 1/2 TSP of Turmeric, 1/2 TSP of Cinnamon, 1/2 TSP Ground Ginger, Pinch of Black Pepper (the pepper activates the anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric)
Stir in 1 TSP of Honey or Maple Syrup to sweeten (maple syrup has a low glycemic index for those watching their sugar)
Froth in a frother or whisk fervently to thicken the texture and blend all ingredients thoroughly
Before serving, I often add a cinnamon stick to the mug, and sprinkle some nutmeg on top
Enjoy the flavors and the health benefits of this Ayurvedic tea blend all winter long!
