The Importance of Finding Peace in the Chaos of the Holiday Season

As the holidays approach and things begin to feel chaotic, I am reminded to seek out peace and calm each day to come back into balance. Making time to breath, slow down and not get caught up in the hullabaloo and drama that tends to take over the holiday season.

This season is meant to be a time of connection to one another, of gratitude for getting together in the darkest and coldest months, and a time to enjoy the peace and quiet that comes after a snowfall, or the warmth of a yummy cup of tea (Read the monthly blog for the tea of the month!).

Therefore, this month we focus on peace in our daily practices, on and off the mat. This will provide us with ways to cope with the chaotic swirl of holiday energy, and not lose ourselves or priorities.

When we mindfully incorporate peace into our daily practices, we are able to stay more grounded, and be more present for those who are most important in our lives. We may even include them in these practices to share and enhance the benefits. After all, isn't being present with one another the greatest gift of all?

3 Simple Practices to Add More Peace Into Every Day:

  1. Once daily peace ritual: Creating a routine, or ritual, around peacefulness invites more peace into your life. This ritual may be listening to relaxing music while you make and drink a cup of tea,  or take a daily sunset walk. Any actions that help you reset, calm down and create a moment of inner peace.

  2. Quiet stillness: Take time at least once a day to be silent. This will help quiet your busy mind, and bring clarity and awareness to what is really important to you. This could look like taking a minute to pause and sit quietly between activities, or perhaps you set aside time for quiet meditation. No TV or music, and no talking. A little bit of quiet goes a long way.

  3. Spread peaceful energy to others: You may invite a friend for mindful walk where you focus on noticing the air, the sky and the beauty around you, learning to be peaceful and quiet side by side.

I hope these help bring you some peace as you navigate the holiday season.

Protecting your peace and supporting it with daily practices are at the heart of living your yoga.
